PDD

While at therapy today with Timmy, his counselor suggested that Timmy be evaluated for Autism.  He believes that Timmy may have PDD, that he could be somewhere on the spectrum, most likely Aspergers.
This isn't a shock ... and yet it is.  Does that even make sense?  Since Timmy has been little, my mom (who works with the developmentally disabled) has said that he acts like he is Autistic.  Timmy's pre-k teacher mentioned it.  Timmy's K teacher said "no way, he is not autistic".  Sometimes he seems just fine.  Other times, definitely not.  As he gets older, I guess the "quirkiness" becomes more and more evident.
At first I'd tell people he was a little "quirky".
Then I told people that he had some "autistic tendencies"
And now ... now we are talking about actually labeling him as autistic.  Now we are going to get him evaluated and possibly have a full diagnosis.
This is so damn scary.

Getting the school to restart Timmy's services

I called the school after they had approved Timmy's IHIP to let them know that I'd like Timmy's services restored.  (Speech therapy, Occupational therapy, Social therapy).  They let me know that I'd have to send a formal letter requesting them.
I sent the formal letter out to them, but didn't hear back.  I called them and was told that they were planning Timmy's Annual Review and that we'd discuss whether he needed services or not at that time.  His annual review is scheduled for February 14th.
I'm not looking forward to this.  I felt like I was not listened to at all at the last meeting with the school.  I felt pressured to give in to things that I didn't agree with.
I did call my aunt and she said she would go with me.  She has worked in schools for decades and she has been around Timmy his whole life.  She KNOWS what he needs and what a normal 6 year old should be doing, ya know?  So I'll have her with me.  Someone to help me stay calm, but also stand up for Timmy.
Ugh.  I'm not looking forward to this.

Timmy's 7!! :)

Holy cow. I can't believe he is already 7. Time is totally flying.
Timmy is addicted to the computer game Stronghold Crusader. Absolutely ADDICTED. So when we were thinking about a cool cake to make him, I thought it'd be absolutely awesome if we were able to do a fortress like on that game. THEN we were thinking ... wouldn't it be even cooler if we made 2 fortresses and had them fighting?
So the hubby and I sat down and discussed how it should be made. One gluten free cake mix, made up in the brownie cake pan that separates them into pieces while baking. One gluten cake mix, made up the same way. Then the hubby went a building, just like a little kid with Legos!
Castle Gluten Free!
Gluten free chocolate cake. Gummy bear soldiers with plastic toothpick swords. Hershey kiss parapets. Fruit roll flags. Gluten free ice cream cones for the towers. Rice Chex "thatched roof" over the center of the fortress.

Castle Gluten!
Regular cake, teddy graham soldiers with plastic toothpick swords. Hershey kiss parapets. Fruit roll flags. Ice cream cones for the towers. Rice Chex for the "thatched roof" over the center of the fortress.

Gluten free soldiers made it over to the Gluten castle. They are climbing a pole (cappucino stick) to get up to the top of the castle and take it over!

The face off!

We tried to do something awesome for him. We didn't want him to have a boring, tasteless birthday cake. He, and everyone at the party loved it! :) Yay!

As for the actual party ... hmm... well you can read my review of THAT here. Ugh.

Granny Stripes Blanket!

I've decided I'm going to make a REAL blanket!  Yes, sirree I sure am!  I won't crochet 10 rows and stow it away somewhere and forget about it.  I WILL complete an afghan this year.

I've decided to use this pattern to make my very first full size afghan.  I love the look of it and it is quite simple.  Something I can crochet and watch tv at the same time.

So I started crocheting late on the night of January 9th.  I'm hoping to complete at least 2 color rows a day, 5 days a week.  That is 4 rows a day.  I figure I should be able to do that as well as my other crocheting too.

As of the morning of January 10th, here is what I have finished!

A couple hats for a couple teens!

A local friend in our homeschooling group asked me to make her a couple hats for her daughters.  First, something for her daughter in her school colors - orange & black.  Second - a rasta hat similar to the one I made in the past.
Please excuse my dorky hubby modeling the rasta hat. LOL
